Ronald SnyderRonald L. Snyder, 85, of Seneca, died at his home on Saturday morning, April 22, 2017, following a period of declining health.

He was born in Oil City on February 14, 1932 to the late Guy Frank and Ethel May (Nelson) Snyder.

He was a graduate of Cranberry High School. He then served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 through 1955, during the Korean War.

Ron was an avid animal lover and treasured fond memories of his beloved dogs, Candy and Jake.

He loved working outdoors and took great care and pride in maintaining his beautiful yard.

He loved cars, all cars… as long as they were American made; and was the proud owner of antique cars, which he enjoyed entering in many area car shows.

Ron loved attending the races, from Sharon, to the Poconos, to the Daytona 500.

Mr. Snyder was employed by Wonder Bread, Oliver Brothers, and retired from the Oil Well Supply Company in Oil City, a division of U.S. Steel. Following his retirement, he worked at the A+ Convenience Store in Oil City.

He was married in Monticello, Mississippi on June 30, 1952 to Doris “Doe” McCanna, and she preceded him in death on August 26, 1961.

He later married the former Lillian Ann Layton in Oil City on September 8, 1962, and she preceded him in death on September 20, 2015.

Surviving is his daughter, Tamara “Tammy” Butler and her husband George of Middletown, New Jersey; two granddaughters, Joni Long Kacen and her husband William and Chelsea Ann Butler; his late grandson’s wife, Jennifer Long Murphy; two great-granddaughters, Ellie Rose Kacen and Lily Mae Kacen; and six great-grandsons: Hunter Lee Long, Dakota Shane Long, Wyatt Jesse Kacen, Blaise Dylan Long, Owen Jon Kacen, and Cash Richard Murphy; and his loyal companion, his pet dog “Digger.”

Mr. Snyder was preceded in death by his parents and his wives; an infant son, Tommy Snyder; two grandsons, Jesse Caleb Long and Cody Lee Long; and a former son-in-law, Jon M. Long.

Friends and family will be received Tuesday (April 25) from 10 — 11 a.m. in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Rte. 257 in Seneca, Cranberry Township, where a funeral service will follow Tuesday at 11 a.m. conducted by Mr. Richard Cauvel, Jr.

Interment will follow in Brandon Cemetery, Cranberry.
