Rose M. Frank of Oil City, PA, passed away on December 31, 2012, at Corry Memorial Hospital in Corry, PA, following a brief illness.

She was born on April 12, 1920, the daughter of the late Louis and Jennie Gammello of Oil City. One of nine children, Mrs. Frank was preceded in death by her brothers Charles, Clement, and Frederick Gammello and her sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Caporaletti, Mrs. Jennie Costanzo and Mrs. Josephine Czekalski, Mrs. Marie Tagliaferri Smith and Mrs. Julia Gianvito.

Mrs. Frank attended St. Joseph’s Elementary School as a child and was a 1940 graduate of Oil City High School. She served on many reunion committees for her graduating class.

On October 17, 1942, Rose married Dominick Frank at St. Joseph’s Church in Oil City. He preceded her in death in 2004. They were married for 62 years. During WWII Mrs. Frank traveled with her husband until he was sent overseas where he was injured at Anzio Beach-Head in Italy. During his time overseas, Mrs. Frank worked in Boston, MA, at the Necco Candy Company and later at the Vogue Meat Packing Company and Philco Radio Co. in Philadelphia. In later years, Mrs. Frank worked with her husband at Frank’s Optical Co, on Seneca St. in Oil City. They were in business for 47 years. They also enjoyed traveling together especially their 1972 trip to Italy to visit family that Dominick had not seen since WWII.

Mrs. Frank was a member of St. Joseph’s Church and was an active member of the Altar Rosary Society and the Prime Timers Club. She also was active in the Assumption B.V.M. Golden Agers Club. In her later years, Rose loved to go on trips as a member of the Y.W.C.A. “Gallivanters’ Club.” She was also an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“Mamma Rose”, as her family and friends called her, loved to cook and bake. Her specialties were her homemade spaghetti and meatballs and her famous apple cake. She was a volunteer in the cafeteria of Venango Catholic High School for 13 years while her children, Joe, Linda, and Barb were students there. While a resident of Hasson Heights for 30 years, Mrs. Frank was always an active volunteer collecting for The March of Dimes.

She is survived by three children, Joseph Frank of Belmont, CA, Dr. Linda Frank of Pittsburgh, PA, and Barbara Peterson and her husband, Terry, of Corry, PA. Mrs. Frank is also survived by her three grandchildren, Ashley (Peterson) Reilly and her husband, Kevin, of Boston, MA, Laura (Peterson) Engle and her husband, Nick, of Kernersville, NC, and Derek Peterson of Pittsburgh, PA. In addition, she is survived by many devoted nieces and nephews.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and from 7-9 P.M. Friday in the Reinsel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in St. Joseph’s Church with Fr. Justrin P. Pino, Pastor, Presiding. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Oil City, PA. The family suggests memorials be made to St Joseph’s Church or Mount St. Benedict Monastery, 6101 E.
