Rose “Marie” (Smeltzer) Allen, age 60, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 17, 2016, as a resident of the McKinley Health Center in Brookville, PA.

Marie was born in Brookville PA, on October 22, 1956, to the late Richard James Smeltzer Jr., and Helen Marie (Cowfer) Schrock; Helen survives her.

Marie graduated from Brookville High School with the class of 1976.

She has an extensive work history that included Brookville Area Schools, YMCA, operating a daycare, Dickenson Mental Health Group Homes, Springview Estates, and St. Bernard’s Church.

Marie was a member of the Brookville Assembly of God and she was the founding member and president of “Handicaps R Us”, which is a support group for mentally alert handicapped and disabled adults.

Marie enjoyed visiting with her friends and she loved children. She also liked to go shopping and she enjoyed the company of her pet cats and dogs. She would listen to Christian radio stations and television channels, and she always enjoyed a good hot cup of tea.

In addition to her mother, Marie is survived by 1 sister: Brenda J. (Tom) Smith of Rocky Grove, PA; 2 brothers; Ken (Peggy) Smeltzer of Allen, TX; Steve (Tonya) Smeltzer of Oil City, PA; and many other extended family members.

In addition to her father, she is preceded in death by 1 brother; Richard “Ricky” Smeltzer III.

Family and friends will be received on Wednesday, December 21, 2016, from 2 — 4pm and 6 — 8pm at the McKinney — d’Argy Funeral Home, ltd, 345 Main St., Brookville, PA, 15825.

A funeral service will take place on Thursday, December 22, 2016, also at the funeral home, beginning at 11:00am, and officiated by Pastor John A. Thomas.

Interment will take place at Mt. Tabor Cemetery, Eldred Twp., Jefferson Co., PA.

Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the McKinley Health Center, 133 Laurelbrooke Dr., Brookville, PA, 15825.
