Victim of Fatal Route 157 Crash Identified

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — The driver who was killed in a Sunday afternoon crash on State Route 157 in Cranberry Township has been identified by authorities.

Venango County Coroner Rugh told The Derrick, that the victim was 42-year-old Charles Jarzenski, of Oil City, and the cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

Calls to Rugh by ExploreVenango.com were not returned.

According to Franklin-based State Police, Jarzenski was operating a 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt, traveling west on Route 157 when for unknown reasons he lost control and the vehicle struck a utility pole on the south side of Route 157, south of Old Kahle Road, at 358 Route 157, in Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Police say Jarzenski’s vehicle continued west on the south side of the roadway coming to a final rest approximately 111 feet from the initial impact with the utility pole.

At some point during the crash, Jarzenski was ejected from the vehicle and was found deceased upon arrival, according to police.

The roadway was closed for several hours following the accident.

Seneca Volunteer Fire Department and Community Ambulance Service also assisted at the scene.
