Route 427 Bridge Preservation Project to Begin in Sugarcreek

| June 12, 2018

SUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) – Work will soon get underway to rehabilitate the bridge that carries Route 427 over Sugar Creek in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County.

Work on the 106-foot-long prestressed steel I-beam bridge is expected to begin June 25, 2018, weather permitting, and is scheduled to be completed by September 7, 2018.

The bridge is located between the intersection of Route 427 and Beatty Run Road and the intersection of Route 427 and Sleepy Hollow Drive.

Construction will include preservation work on the sub-structure of the bridge, as well as new asphalt pavement deck and roadway approaches, updated guiderails, and pavement markings.

There will be separate detours for cars and trucks starting June 25, 2018. The car detour will use Route 322, Meadville Road (SR 4006) and Patchel Run Road (SR 4003). The truck detour will use Route 322, Route 173, and Route 27.

The existing bridge was built in 1933, and is classified as structurally deficient. It is used by about 1,200 vehicles a day, on average.

The contractor is Clearwater Construction, Inc, of Mercer, PA. The contract cost is $626,000, which is to be paid entirely with state funds.

This project is made possible by Act 89, Pennsylvania’s transportation funding plan.

PennDOT urges motorists to slow down when driving in work zones, and also to be alert to changing conditions, avoid distractions and to pay attention to signs and flaggers. Drive responsibly in work zones for your safety and the safety of the workers.
