Russell H. Cardy, 88, a resident of 40 Gilfillan Street, Franklin died peacefully at 2:05 PM Wednesday, February 25, 2015 in his home with his sons by his side; following a period of declining health.

He was born November 9, 1926 in Franklin, a beloved son of the late: Russell and Julia Brink Cardy.

He attended the former Sacred Heart School (now St. Patrick School) in Franklin.

Mr. Cardy proudly served his country as a member of the U. S. Navy during World War II; where he earned rank of Seaman First Class and had served in both the European and Pacific Theaters. For service to his country he was awarded the European Theater Ribbon with 2 Stars, the Pacific Theater Ribbon with 2 Stars, the American Theater Ribbon, the World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. He was honorably discharged from active duty on May 1, 1946.

Upon his discharge from duty, Mr. Cardy had worked at Conair in Franklin. He worked his way up within the company, retiring as a foreman in 1990; following more than 25 years of service.

For many years, Mr. Cardy enjoyed singing as a member of the Venango Barbertones. He also enjoyed woodworking and carpentry and had, through the years, built four homes together with his sons.

He was a member of the Fox Street Church of God.

He was married on September 20, 1950 in the Rocky Grove Avenue Presbyterian Church to the former Velma Louise Rial; who preceded him in death on June 29, 2014.

He is survived by two sons: Edward J. Cardy of Erie and Thomas J. Cardy and his wife Joanne of Franklin. Also surviving are his grandchildren: Corinne Cardy and Alexandra and Nathan Cardy.

Also surviving is his brother: Robert D. Cardy and his wife Peg of Franklin; in addition to many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

In addition to his beloved wife and parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter: Linda Sue Cardy, by his brothers: Jack and Fred Cardy and by his sisters: Ruth Raffa, June Lindsey, Louise Caccamo, Kate DeMero and Margaret Johnson.

Friends may call Monday 2-4 & 7-8:30 PM in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin.

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 8:30 PM in the funeral home with Reverend Lonnie Wolford, pastor of The Fox Street Church of God officiating.

Private interment will be in Franklin Cemetery.
