Russell Corbin Alderton, Jr.

| January 30, 2015

Alderton-Russell-C.Russell Corbin Alderton, Jr. took his seat in the heavenly choir on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

Son of the late Russell Corbin, Sr., and Betty Irene (Nichols) Alderton, Russell was born on January 16, 1949 In Clearfield.

He was the eldest of 5 boys, and spent his youth living in Clearfield and Reynoldsville before the family moved to Roseville in 1958.

Russell attended the Westside and C.G. Johnson Elementary Schools, in Reynoldsville, Corsica Elementary and Clarion-Limestone High School, graduating in 1966 and then attended Clarion State College from 1966-1970, earning a B.A. in Political Science.

Russell was then drafted by the United States Army and served in active duty from 1970 until 1973, working as a stenographer for the Counterespionage Branch of the Military Intelligence Group in Falls Church, Virginia. Russell was released to pursue higher education and enrolled in the University of Pittsburgh, School of Law and attended for 1 year and was then given an Honorable Discharge in 1976. Russell had then returned home and was married to Barbara Lea Pierce, the love of his life, on June 15, 1974.

Russell operated Alderton Enterprises, Inc. and the Roseville Burial Service with his brothers. He was surrounded daily by the assurance of one’s death, but encouraged everyone he knew to celebrate the life that was lived.

He enjoyed, more than anything, family get-togethers – Sunday lunch, summer picnics, dinners at camp with his brothers and especially annual reunions.

Since childhood, Russell attended Pisgah Presbyterian Church in Corsica, where he happily served many terms as both Elder and Trustee. He worked diligently as part of the building committee to rebuild Pisgah after its fire in 2003 and to continue its congregational growth. Russell was a long and steadfast member in the Pisgah church choir – singing with great enthusiasm for the Lord. His choir folder only grew fatter – always refusing to give back copies of his favorite hymns and songs of praise.

In addition to his mother, Betty, and his wife, Barb, Russ is survived by three daughters, Emily (Ben) Coulson of Summerville, Erin (Adam) Hepfl of Roseville and Elizabeth (Josh) Clinger, also of Roseville. Russell was blessed by his three sons-in-law, who seemed to each share his passions and hobbies. “PaRussie” is survived by seven grandchildren, Corbin and Aiden Coulson, Charlie, Corinne and Connor Hepfl and Makayla and Brady Clinger. Russell lived, worked and worshipped daily alongside each of his brothers, all of whom survive – Ronald (Joan), Randall (Sandi), Richard and Rodger (Jill), and had a remarkable bond with his sisters and brothers-in-law – Howie Pierce, West End, NC, Dick (Barb) Pierce, Corsica, Debbie (John) Johnson, Clarion and Marilyn Aljoe, Corsica. He deeply loved each one of his many cousins, nieces and nephews – whether near or far. There’s no possible way to list the number of very significant, surviving friends – Russell seemed to know everyone and was truly blessed to have built these countless and wonderful relationships over the years. He began each day with a devotion, which was always followed by breakfast with his buddies. He truly thought of each friend as a Brother or Sister in Christ.

Russell was preceded in death by his father, by his father-in-law and mother-in-law (Howard and Betty Pierce) and by his infant daughter, Susan.
