Ruth Hope (Sis) Silvis

| January 23, 2018

Ruth Hope (Sis) Silvis, 65, of Marienville, went to be with her Lord on January 22, 2018, at her home with her loving husband and family by her side, after a long, courageous battle with brain cancer.

Sis was born March 25, 1952, in Kane, PA to the late Herbert Renton Jr. and the late Ruth M. Byers Harp. She attended Vo-Tech while in high school and graduated from East Forest High School with a cosmetology license in 1970. She then attended Orra Jean Beauty Academy in Erie and earned her teaching license.

On July 29, 1972, she married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Robert Silvis, who survives. They were married for 45 years.

Sis worked at several beauty shops in Erie and Warren before moving back to Marienville and working at Nancy Wilson’s beauty shop. She worked there until becoming a full-time homemaker and raising her children. Sis helped her husband with his business, Robert A. Silvis Excavating. She was also a teacher’s aide at East Forest for a few years. She was a faithful, 50-year member of the Marienville United Methodist Church where she served as Treasurer, taught youth and adult Sunday School classes, organized and taught Vacation Bible School and Release Time.

Mrs. Silvis was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

Sis loved working with children and volunteered her time coaching little league baseball, being a Girl Scout leader, Rainbow Girls leader, and a Cub Scout den leader. She always encouraged her kids and grandsons in Scouts, sports, and all their other interests. She was very proud that both of her sons and oldest grandson achieved their Boy Scout Eagle rank. Sis loved to have family gatherings and always organized games for the kids. She had many interests; painting, writing, gardening, and flowers. Sis was a wonderful seamstress and great cook. She enjoyed camping, boating, and going to the beach.

Sis will be greatly missed by all, but especially her family. Her memory will live on through them.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a daughter, Misty (Scott) Dittman of Marienville; two sons, Mark of Salt Lake City, UT, and Ross (Jessica) of Edinboro, PA. Sis was blessed with three grandsons, Brandon and Robert Dittman and Gavin Silvis. She was a loving wife, mother, sissy, and nanie, always putting her family first. Sis is also survived by four brothers, Bill (Joann), Ed (Pam), Randy and Jamie; three sisters, Tammi (Kevin) Campbell, Marla Harp and Mia (Chuck) Severo; her stepfather, Marland Harp; her mother-in-law, Leora (Ordie) Silvis; in-laws, Paul (Linda) Silvis, Bonnie (Jeff) Parrett, Janice (Tim) Simpson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ruth Harp; grandmother, Elizabeth Harp; brother, Kevin Renton; and father-in-law, Paul F. Silvis.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, January 25, 2018, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Furlong Funeral Home in Marienville, PA.
