Ruth Irene Dignall

Ruth Irene Dignall, 86, of Cochranton, passed away on May 9, 2018, at the Meadville Medical Center.

Ruth was born on August 21, 1931, in Frenchcreek Township, Mercer County, to the late Howard and Mary Pittinger Buchanan. She was a graduate of Cochranton High School in 1949 and worked for many years as a school secretary first in Texas, then in the Cochranton School District. Ruth was also a tax collector for French Creek Township for 25 years. She loved most of all working for the family business, Dignall Auto Parts store in Cochranton.

Ruth married her beloved husband, James E. Dignall on July 5, 1952, he preceded her in death on August 5, 2011.

Ruth loved working with people and just interacting and socializing with everyone she could. She loved working with people in the auto parts store. She was very customer service oriented and would even take the time to look up specific parts in the catalog for customers. She also enjoyed flower and vegetable gardens and could always be found picking up stones on the property to get the ground ready for the gardens. She also loved to go to flea markets. She was involved for many years in the Pennsylvania State Sunday School Association, a member of the Gideons, the Christian Endeavor, and the Milledgeville United Presbyterian Church. She also enjoyed collecting Mickey Mouse Memorabilia. Most of all, Ruth enjoyed sitting outside, watching nature and enjoying its beauty.

Ruth is survived by three children, Patricia Ann Dignall of Cochranton, Dennis Dignall and wife Barbara of Carlton, Catherine “Cathy” Burchill and husband Scott of Greenville, six grandchildren, Sarah, Matthew, and Rebecca Dignall, and Seth, Stacie, and Shawn Burchill, one great-grandson Brady Dignall, and one brother Carl Buchanan and wife Karen of Carlton, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth is also survived by her deceased son David’s children, Joy, Zina, Samuel, and Beth.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ruth was preceded in death by her son, David Alan Dignall, brother Willard Buchanan, and sister Adda Mae Free.

Funeral Arrangements have been entrusted to the Black Funeral Homes, Stoneboro & Sandy Lake.

Funeral Services will be private.

Interment will be in New Lebanon Cemetery.
