Ruth M. Bogardus, 99, formerly of Cooperstown and a resident of Hillside Home died Wednesday, February 25, 2015 after a brief illness.

Born, August 17, 1915 in Swissvale, she was the daughter of Levi and Olivia Lang Raup. She married Kenneth Bogardus on December 25, 1938 and he preceded her in death on April 29, 1995.

She graduated from Wilkinsburg High School in 1933.

She was awarded a full academic scholarship to the University of Pittsburgh and received a Bachelor degree in mathematics in 1937.

She later pursued graduate studies at Allegheny College and Pitt.

During a lengthy teaching career, Ruth taught several subjects, but primarily math, at Penn Hills, New Kensington, and Lower Burrell.

She was loved by her students and colleagues, and received a number of awards in recognition of her teaching.

Ruth wished her survivors to know that she loved her family and fiends and enjoyed the woodlands, feeding the birds, sewing and reading.

Her family and friends enjoyed her wonderful cooking, especially the numerous pies, cakes and cookies she had ready for all visitors.

Loving survivors include three daughters: Judith Wagner and her husband, Thomas, of New Hampshire, Joy Fisher and her husband, Gerald of Tuscson, Arizona, and Jane McRAe and her husband, Stephen, of New Hampshire. They also include her two granddaughters, Ann Wanger Stewart and Rachel Wagner, and four grandsons, Mark Wagner, Doghlas Cocuhman, Jeffrey Couchman, and Michael McRae. She is also survived by nine great grandchildren, a sister Carol Maxwell of Pittsburgh, two brothers, Richard Raup of Guys Mills, and Lee Raup and his wife, Linda of Deland, Florida.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Long, of Pittsburgh.

Mt. Hope United Methodist Church will provide a memorial lunch for Ruth at 12:00 following their regular church service this Sunday, March 1.

A memorial service with interment of ashes will take place at a date to be determined later this year.

The family wishes to give thanks for the comforting words of the many who shared our love for our beautiful, kind and wise Ruth.
