Sally Mae Dale, 86, of Ahrensville, passed away after a brief illness, at her Allegheny River residence on Tuesday, October 31, at 4:05 pm.

Sally was born February 27, 1931, in Oil City, she was a daughter of the late Walter and Edna (Nuhfer) Weaver and the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a 1949 graduate of Oil City Area High School and was employed by Freem’s Women’s Clothing store and as an operator for General Telephone Co.

After Art’s return from the service, they launched their career with Nationwide Insurance resulting in moves to Oakmont, Cochranton, Kane and finally settling back in Oil City. Sally accumulated several dear friends from each location.

Sally and Art, owned and operated Art Dale Nationwide Insurance Agency for 28 years where Sally was a well-known, trusted and dedicated office manager.

Art and Sally married October 13, 1951, and recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.

She is survived by her husband and five children. Douglas R. Dale (wife Sharon), Roxanne Dale (partner Brenda), Timothy L. Dale (partner Mary Kay), Daniel A. Dale (wife Tami) and Warren W. Dale (wife Julie.) She is also survived by five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her daughter, Laura Dale King and her husband Joseph, as a result of a tragic auto accident. Her grandchildren, Kristin Dale and Joshua King; sisters Frannie Schwabenbauer, Helen Oxenham and Beverly Strain; and her beloved aunt Ann Lerch, also preceded her in death.

Sally was a devout Catholic, a member of the Rosary Alter Society and St. Joseph Church.

Sally was a generous soul who always had an empty chair and a full plate for family and friends.

Sally inspired many with her zest for life and she had a true appreciation for birds, wildlife, her card club and the Pittsburgh Steelers. In addition, she was an avid artist and gardener.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to VNA Foundation of Venango County, St. Joseph Church, VARHA, Salvation Army, the Paralyzed Veterans of America or a charity of your choice.

Special thanks to the Visiting Nurses and Hospice caregivers who took such fabulous care of Sally.

A committal service will be held at the chapel at the Calvary Cemetery on Friday, November 3, at Noon.

The Morrison Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
