Sandra Mitchell Smith, 79, of Walterboro, entered into rest Monday evening, January 1, 2018, at the Colleton Medical Center in Walterboro. She was the wife of the late Mr. Marshall D. Smith.

Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon, January 6, 2017, from The Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Chapel, Walterboro. The Reverend Rodney Lyons officiating. Entombment will follow in Glendale Memorial Chapel Mausoleum in Walterboro. The family has requested the Deacons of Edgewood Baptist Church to serve as Honorary Escorts, and their presence is requested at The Funeral Chapel at 2:30 p.m. that afternoon.

Born September 13, 1938, in Oil City, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Carle and Clara Gasford Mitchell. She was a retired bookkeeper from Farmers and Merchants Bank in Walterboro. She was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church in Walterboro where she was a member of the Women’s Missionary Union and Hospitality Committee and also had served as a nursery worker.

Surviving are: a son, Jeffrey M. Smith of Cleveland, Ohio; a daughter, Donna L. Smith of Walterboro; two grandchildren, Nikki Varnadoe and her husband D.J. and Dustin C. Lemacks; two great grandchildren, Landon Varnadoe and Oakley Lemacks; two brothers, Barry Mitchell of Oil City, Pennsylvania and Gordon Mitchell and his wife Anne of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania; and four sisters, Beverly Tudor and her husband Jim of Butler, Pennsylvania, Alice Hines of Oil City, Pennsylvania, Jean Goede of Oil City, Pennsylvania, and Barbara Meyers of Lewes, Delaware. She was preceded in death by four siblings, Patricia Ditzenberger, Carolyn Benson, Richard Mitchell, and Janet Mitchell.

Flowers will be accepted, or for those that wish, the family has suggested that memorial contributions be directed in her memory to: Edgewood Baptist Church, 138 Wildwood Drive, Walterboro, South Carolina 29488.

The family will receive friends prior to the funeral ceremony during a time of visitation beginning at 2:00 p.m. at Brice W. Herndon and Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory, Walterboro Chapel in Walterboro.
