Saturday’s PIAA Playoff Preview for District 9 Teams

Nine District 9 teams will be in action in the PIAA playoffs Saturday including five girls’ teams and four boys’ teams.

CLASS 1A GIRLS

(9-1) NORTH CLARION VS. (7-6) SEWICKLEY ACADEMY
When and Where: 3 p.m. at Moniteau High School
Winner Gets: Quigley Catholic vs. St. Joseph’s Academy winner in second round Wednesday, March 13
Records: North Clarion 19-6; Sewickley Academy 12-8
How They Got Here: North Clarion beat Johnsonburg for its third straight District 9 title; Sewickley Academy defeated California in the opening round of the WPIAL playoffs before losing to West Greene in the quarterfinals. They are the sixth-seed after West Greene finished second in the follow-the-leader system the WPIAL uses.

How They Got Here: Johnsonburg lost to North Clarion in District 9 title game; Vincentian Academy beat Leechburg and Clairton in WPIAL playoffs before losing to runner-up West Greene in semifinals thus becoming the fourth-place team in the follow-the-leader system.
