karen hazlettCOOKSBURG, Pa. (EYT) – Karen Hazlett has been named the new executive director of the Cook Forest Sawmill Center for the Arts.

Having been selected by the 18-member board of directors, Hazlett is responsible for leading the organization and its four components: the Verna Leith Theater, the Artisan & Craft Market, the festivals, and the art classes and workshops.

“The Sawmill Center has been providing education and entertainment to our area for more then 30 years,” said Hazlett. “I am excited to continue this tradition and to build on it.”

Hazlett hopes to expand the programs by finding additional class instructors and art exhibitors, and by working with local schools and community groups to form educational partnerships.

Hazlett, who has spent most of her career in marketing and public relations, is looking to bring the Sawmill Center into the spotlight.

“The staff, including Christine Hendryx who has been the acting executive director, does an amazing job. We have this fantastic facility and all its resources right here in our own backyard. We have top-notch performing and visual arts. If people haven’t visited the Sawmill Center in awhile, it’s time to stop back.”

Hazlett is a graduate of Clarion University.

She worked for 16 years in the marketing department at Clarion Hospital and two years at Penn Highlands Healthcare.

She has been an active member of the community, serving on boards for the United Way, the Clarion-Forest VNA and the Clarion Area Business Association.

She is actively involved at the Trinity Point Church of God where she serves on the Growth Department and as a Sunday School teacher.
