HAMDEN, Conn. — Police in Connecticut said a man who picked up an abandoned garbage bag near a park later discovered a venomous snake in his garbage bin.

The snake, identified as a copperhead, was returned to West Rock Park after Animal Control Officer Mitch Gibbs consulted with the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection.
