Say What?!: Fire Ant ‘Rafts’ Spotted in Barry’s Floodwaters

PLAQUEMINES PARISH, Louisiana — Footage has been captured of fire ants in Louisiana saving themselves from Tropical Storm Barry’s floodwaters by banding together to form a raft.

According to researchers, fire ants can utilize their jaws, claws, and adhesive pads on their legs to form floating structures to escape flood conditions.
