MARION CO., Florida — Authorities say a female lion had to be tranquilized after escaping her enclosure at a Florida wildlife sanctuary recently.

The 16-year-old lioness, named Venus, escaped after a volunteer accidentally left a gate open at the facility, but was still contained by a perimeter fence around the property.
