Schneider’s Steps Up for Local Dairy Farms

| March 27, 2018

VENUS, Pa. (EYT) – Schneider’s Dairy announced this week it will take on four local dairy farms as suppliers, effective Sunday, April 1.

The Ron McHenry farm, the Barnett farm, and Henry Farms, all in Knox, and the Mitch Hill Farm, in Venus, were four of the 42 Pennsylvania dairy farms that recently received contract termination letters from Dean Foods.

Cory Rex, the Seneca branch manager for Schneider’s Dairy, got involved when he overheard a heart-wrenching conversation between friends.

“I had overheard a conversation between friends that we go to church with, the Henry’s. I kind of eavesdropped and heard what was going on. I went and asked because they’re friends, we go to church together. I asked Bill Schneider if there was anything we could do. Some of them were going to lose everything they had,” Rex told exploreVenango.com.

William “Bill” Schneider, President of Schneider’s Dairy, decided to try to help.

“We really didn’t need the milk, but when he told me these people were going to lose their livelihood…I didn’t want people to be out on the street, so we did what we could,” Schneider said.

“A truckload of milk every other day is a lot of milk we didn’t need, but we wanted to step up and help these people, especially because they had relationships with Cory. So we did what we could, out of the kindness of our hearts.”

“We’re trying to help as much as we can. We only deal with family farms. We’re a family business; we do it that way to help keep them in business, and it keeps us in business. And we have great relationships with our farms. I try to visit them each a couple of time a year. We want it to be personal, we try to do it in more of a family atmosphere. We like to shake people’s hands every once in a while.”

Schneider’s Dairy’s family farm policy helped make them the first diary approved by the state Department of Agriculture’s PA Preferred program. The PA Preferred program is a state-supported marketing program that identifies and promotes food and agricultural products grown, produced, and processed in Pennsylvania.
