Scott R. Hoover

Scott Hoover died in the Trauma Burn Unit of Mercy Hospital on February 5, 2018, in Pittsburgh, PA, at the age of 61 of a tragic accident while at home.

Scott is survived by his brothers Leland Hoover, Todd Hoover, and David Hoover. He is preceded in death by his parents, Merle L. Hoover, Nancy I. Hoover-Hutz, and his stepfather John J. Hutz of Franklin, PA.

Scott was born on June 24, 1956, in Franklin, PA, the second of four sons, to Merle and Nancy Hoover. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1974.

Scott held a variety of positions in retail and worked as a piano tuner at the QRS Piano factory in Seneca. He also worked as a groundskeeper and facility caretaker at the Fox Street Church of God in Franklin. Scott’s passion was serving as the music director and church organist at Grace Lutheran Church.

Scott’s life was dedicated to serving the church, especially through music. He sang in the choir, played guitar and organ, and served as the music director. Scott loved children and taught Sunday school for many years. He was an artist and contributed his art regularly to church publications. Scott was a model of kindness and generosity to all, with a heart of gold.

Scott was never married and had no children. He was a devoted uncle to his nieces and nephews and always gave them much love and fun. He was an active and dedicated member of the Grace Lutheran Church for over 60 years. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed.

Gardinier Funeral Home, Inc. is entrusted with arrangements, and a memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church (in the St. John’s Episcopal Church), 1145 Buffalo St, Franklin, PA, with Vicar Judy Lamb officiating. Following the memorial will be a graveside service at Bethel Cemetery, followed by a reception held at Grace Lutheran Church.
