OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) — A registered sex offender accused of attempting to lure a teen into his vehicle in Oil City waived his preliminary hearing on Wednesday.

Unable to post $15,000.00 monetary bail, Show remains lodged in the Venango County Jail.

The case was transferred to the Venango County Court of Common Pleas.

Details of the case:

According to a criminal complaint, around 4:29 p.m. on Monday, May 21, officers were dispatched to an area of Manning Street for a report of a suspicious male that had attempted to get a 15-year-old girl into his truck.

Upon arrival, Patrolman Hargenrader spoke with the victim and her mother. The victim stated she had been jogging laps around the neighborhood, and as she was running by a neighbor’s house on Manning Street, an older man who was mowing the grass told her she needed to run a little faster. She said when she later came back around the block, the man waved to her, but she didn’t stop.

The victim said the third time by, the man stopped mowing and came down to the sidewalk. She stated the man stopped her and said he had made a terrible joke and should have tried harder. She told police he then said she looked tired and told her he had something in his truck that would “make her smile big.” She said the man indicated his truck was parked in the alley behind the residence and told her he had a puppy. She stated that he then asked if she lived around there and asked if that was where she liked to run.

The victim said she declined and left to go home.

Patrolman Hargenrader and Lieutenant Love escorted the victim over to the edge of Manning Street, and she pointed out the man mowing grass at the rear of a house and said he was the man that had stopped her.

Police made contact with the man, later identified as William Lee Show. Show stated he did yell to the girl that she had better run faster if she wanted to catch her sister, and did wave to her when she went by again. He said he stopped her on the sidewalk and had made a bad joke. He went on to say he then told her he had something in his truck that would make her smile: a puppy.

Show then stated he realized it “looked bad” and he had “put his foot in his mouth.” Lieutenant Love asked Show if he had ever been arrested, and Show said that he had not.

Patrolman Hargenrader then received a radio transmission from dispatch requesting that he call in. When he called in, he was advised that Show was a registered sex offender according to PA State Megan’s Law.

When the officers asked Show, he admitted to being a registered sex offender.

Show’s parole agent was then contacted via phone, and advised of the situation. Lieutenant Love was advised that a 48-hour detainer would be issued and to take Show into custody. Show was transported to the Oil City Police Department and later taken to the Venango County Jail.

According to the PA State Megan’s Law website, 46-year-old William Lee Show resides at 148 Autumn Haze Lane in Seneca.
