LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – Slippery Rock University senior linebacker Brad Zaffram was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division Defensive Athlete of the Week for his performance in The Rock’s 54-19 win over Shippensburg Saturday.

Zaffram earns his first career PSAC weekly award after leading No. 11 Slippery Rock’s defensive effort Saturday night with six total tackles, including five solo stops and one tackle for loss. He also pulled down his second interception in as many games, recorded one pass breakup and was credited with four quarterback hurries.

Zaffram’s interception in the closing seconds of the first quarter flipped the momentum for Slippery Rock after Shippensburg raced out to a 10-0 early lead. His pick came after The Rock got on the board to cut the deficit to 10-7 and it set up a second straight touchdown drive that put SRU out front for good.

The Rock reeled off 48 unanswered points and ran away with the 54-19 victory to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Zaffram ranks sixth in the nation through two weeks of the 2019 season in interceptions, averaging 1.0 per game.

Slippery Rock will look to get to 3-0 this Saturday night when Millersville visits for a 6 p.m. kickoff.
