Smoke from Faulty Wood Burner Sends Man to Hospital

fire-truck-4-2WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — A faulty wood burner filled a Washington Township home with smoke and sent a local man to the hospital.

At 6:19 p.m. Monday, Clarion County 911 received the call for a report of a structure fire at 391 State Route 157 and dispatched the Washington Township Volunteer Fire Department, Farmington Township Fire Department, Shippenville-Elk Township Volunteer Fire Department, and Shippenville EMS to the scene.

Washington Township was first on the scene 12 minutes after the initial call came in.

2nd Assistant Chief Fire Chief Shane Smerkar told exploreClarion.com that a wood burner malfunctioned in the basement of the home and it filled with smoke.

“We heard he had briefly passed out, but when we got there, he up walking around and talking,” Smerkar said.

The man, whose name has not been released, was taken by Shippenville EMS for evaluation but there was no further report on his condition.

All units were back in service by 7:13 p.m.

Pine Grove Volunteer Fire Department was also dispatched through mutual aid with Venango County, but their call was canceled at 6:37 p.m.
