Snow Covered Roads Lead to Several Crashes Around Venango County

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) – Slippery roadways throughout the area on Sunday contributed to a number of accidents in Venango County.

According to a representative of Venango County 9-1-1, it was a busy Sunday evening at the call center with multiple motor vehicle accidents reported once the winter weather began moving through the area.

The calls began with a call at 3:49 p.m. for a report of a vehicle that slid off the road and struck several mailboxes along State Route 208 in Irwin Township. Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene.

At 5:49 p.m., a two-vehicle accident was reported in front of Home Depot in Cranberry Township. Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene and Seneca Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for traffic control.

The next call was received at 5:51 p.m. for a rollover crash in the 2000 block of Georgetown Road in Irwin Township. Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Superior Ambulance Service, and Franklin-based State Police were dispatched. No injuries were reported.

Another call came in at 5:57 p.m. for a vehicle in the median of Interstate 80 eastbound near the 36 mile marker in Clinton Township. Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, and Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene.

A second Interstate 80 crash was reported at 6:36 p.m. near the 44.2 mile marker in the westbound lanes. Emlenton Fire Department, Emlenton Area Ambulance Service, and Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene.

At 7:37 p.m. a call came in for a one-car rollover near the intersection of Second Avenue and Baker Street in the Rock Grove Area of Sugarcreek Borough. Sugarcreek Borough Police were dispatched to the scene.

A vehicle was reported to have struck a parked car on a sharp curve on Plummer Street in Oil City around 8:42 p.m. Oil City Fire Department, Community Ambulance, and Oil City Police were dispatched to the scene.

Another one-vehicle crash was reported around 8:56 p.m. on Bissel Avenue in Oil City. Oil City Fire Department, Community Ambulance, and Oil City Police were dispatched to the scene.

Finally, at 11:31 p.m. a one-vehicle crash was reported near the 41.2 mile marker on Interstate 80 Eastbound. Franklin-based State Police were dispatched to the scene.

No additional details on the crashes are available at this time.

Police are expected to release additional information within the next 48 hours.
