SUGARCREEK, Pa. (EYT) — According to Franklin-based State Police, a two-vehicle crash occurred early yesterday morning on Allegheny Blvd., south of Main Street, in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County.

Police say 53-year-old Caroline J. Bemis, of Oil City, and 42-year-old Aaric L. Fileger, of Clarendon, were involved in the collision.

According to police, around 5:32 a.m. on January 31, a 2005 Chevrolet Equinox — driven by Bemis — was traveling south on Route 8 in the right southbound lane, and a 2012 Kenworth tractor-trailer — operated by Fileger — was following the Equinox in the right southbound lane.

Bemis attempted to switch to the left lane and lost control of her Equinox due to snow-covered roadway conditions. The Equinox’s front bumper had an initial impact with the concrete center divider located along the left southbound lane of Route 8. After impact, the Equinox traveled across the left southbound lane and into the right southbound lane directly in the path of the Kenworth. The Equinox’s passenger side door was then impacted by the Kenworth’s front bumper.

The Equinox came to a final rest facing west across the right southbound lane directly in front of the Kenworth.

After impact, the Kenworth’s trailer partially jackknifed crossing both southbound lanes of Route 8.

Both drivers were using seat belts and were not injured.

Bemis was charged with a traffic violation.
