SPONSORED: Wanango Country Club Adds New Pool, Recreation Area; Memberships Make Great Christmas Gifts

RENO, Pa. (EYT) – Looking to create a family-wide atmosphere, Wanango Country Club in Reno has just added a recreation area highlighted by a brand new swimming pool.

“We just completed the pool about three weeks ago,” Jessica Rosen, Director of Marketing and Events at Wanango County Club told exploreVenango.com.

“It will be the centerpiece of our new recreation area.”

The recreation area will also consist of bocce and pickleball courts and is the cumulation of one of the short-term goals for the country club when the new owners bought it in 2017.

“The expansion, putting the pool in and the recreation area, was something they talked about in their short-term plans when they bought the club,” Rosen explained. “They are really excited to be putting that plan into action.”

According to Rosen, the idea behind creating the recreation area was to make the club more family-friendly.

“We are trying to create a family atmosphere,” Rosen said. “Hopefully, this will bring families into the club.”

The pool will most likely open in May, although that is weather dependent, Rosen said.

With the advent of the recreation area, the club will be selling a brand-new social membership: All golf memberships, except for the Tuesday Ladies League Membership, will include a social membership with it.

Social memberships will cost $200.00 per year for an individual; $300.00 per year for an individual plus one (either spouse or child); and $350.00 per year for a family membership which includes two adults and any children who are in 12th grade or lower.

“If you get a social membership, you also get discounts on golf plus invitations to members-only events,” Rosen said.

The club is also in the process of running its annual Golf Membership Drive with a lot of different options, including discounts for first-, second-, and third-year Executive and Regular Memberships and a 5 percent discount for those who pay in full prior to January 1, 2020.

Regular and Executive Memberships – ages 41-years-old and older – include golf on the 18-hole A.W. Tillinghast redesigned golf course, including preferred tee times; use of the practice facilities; golf tournaments; the Grill Room; and special events, while the Executive Membership also includes GHIN service; a locker; bag storage; 10 guest passes (for primary members only, must pay cart fee for guests); and a 10 percent discount on all non-sale items at the Pro Shop.

Regular Membership costs $800.00 for the first and second years, $1,000.00 for the third year, and $1,500.00 after that. The Executive Membership costs $1,400.00 in the first and second years, $1,600.00 for the third year, and $2,200.00 after that. Both memberships include a spouse add-on which costs $400.00 in the first and second years, $500.00 in the third year, and $600.00 after that regardless of which of the two memberships is chosen.

The Executive and Regular Memberships are not the only memberships offered by the club.

A Young Professional Membership (ages 18 to 40), a Teachers Membership, a Non-Residential Membership, a College Membership, a Junior Membership, and a Ladies League (Tuesdays only) Membership are also offered.

The Young Professional Membership is $700.00 per year and includes everything the Regular Membership does. A member can add their spouse for an extra $375.00 per year.

A Teachers Membership is for any full-time teacher – aides, substitutes, and part-time teachers are not eligible – and includes everything included in the Regular Membership. It costs $700.00 per year, and members can add their spouse for an extra $375.00 per year.

A College Membership is for full-time college students who are between the ages of 18 and 24 when they sign up. It includes everything included in the Regular Membership and costs $400.00 per year.

A Junior Membership is for children between 13- and 17-years old and includes golf and the use of the practice facilities. It costs $200.00 per year. Any child of a member who is 12-years old or younger can get a free junior membership.

The Ladies Membership is good on Tuesdays only and includes entry into the Ladies’ Golf League and use of the practice facilities and The Grill Room. It costs $350.00 per year.

Members also have the option of buying Club Specialty Services which include GHIN Service ($50.00 per year), Locker with tag ($35.00 per year), Club Storage ($75.00 per year), or a combination of Locker and Club Storage ($100.00 per year).

According to Rosen, the 5 percent discount for paying prior to January 1, 2020, is good on all golf memberships, but not on the Club Specialty Services or the New Social Membership.

The club also offers a new payment plan which would require a 20 percent down payment at the time of signing up and then four equal installments due January 1, 2020, February 1, 2020, March 1, 2020, and April 1, 2020.

Those payments would be taken put on the member’s credit card, and members would need to fill out an ACH credit-card form at the time of signing up. The 5 percent early-payment would not be applied to any memberships on the payment plan.

The club also offers non-members the opportunity to play golf, according to Rosen, with the most up-to-date green fees available on the club’s website (www.wanangocountryclub.com).

“We also have three public golf leagues,” Rosen said. “On Monday nights we have a two-man, nine-hole scramble, on Thursday there is an IPEG golf league that is run by people who work at IPEG but you don’t have to be an employee of IPEG to golf in it, and on Friday nights we have a Couple’s League called ‘Nine & Dine.’”

THE CLUB IS MORE THAN JUST ABOUT GOLF

Wanango County Club is more than just about golf.

According to Rosen, the club has a banquet facility that is open to the public, as well.

“We hold weddings, class reunions, bridal and baby showers, company parties, high school sports banquets, Christmas parties, retirement parties, just to name a few,” Rosen said. “Just call us at 814-676-8133, and we can get you those details.”

The Grill Room and the Grill Room Patio, an outdoor seating area off the Grill Room, are both open during the golf season, which typically runs from late May through early September (give or take a couple of weeks depending on the weather) and is also open to the public, Rosen said.

“It is open for lunch six days a week – we aren’t open for lunch on Mondays – and dinner seven days a week during the season,” Rosen said.

Wanango County Club also has a few special events coming up for the holidays including two Brunch with Santa events and a New Year’s Eve Celebration. All three events are also open to the public.
