Staples Store in Cranberry Will Close Soon

| March 15, 2017

staplesCRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) —  The Staples store at the Walmart Plaza in Cranberry Township is closing in May.

A store employee confirmed that the location is closing.

Last week, the office supply giant reported losses of $548 million and a 3 percent drop in sales in the fiscal fourth quarter that ended in January, according to money.cnn.com.

That led to Staples saying it would close 70 stores in 2017.

It continued a trend for the chain. It has closed about 350 stores in the last five years. Clarion’s Staples closed in February 2014.

Staples closed 48 stores last year. It still has 1,600 locations in North America.

Staples attempted a merger with Office Depot, its chief rival, a year ago, but the Federal Trade Commission blocked the deal.
