State Department Launches Additional Online Services to Help Corporations, Professional License Holders

| October 9, 2014

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Secretary of the Commonwealth Carol Aichele yesterday announced the Corbett Administration is launching several new online services to help corporations and professional license holders do business with the state more quickly and easily.

“Businesses incorporating in Pennsylvania and people employed in 29 different professions applying for and renewing licenses will now be able to handle almost all of their transactions with the state online, making these processes faster, easier, and less expensive,” said Aichele. “This is part of Governor Corbett’s plan to attract jobs by making it easier and less expensive to do business in Pennsylvania.”

The Department of State includes the Bureau of Corporations and Charitable Organizations, which has registrations for more than 2.6 million Pennsylvania corporations and 11,000 charitable organizations, and the Bureau of Professional and Occupational Affairs, which oversees boards that license more than 950,000 professionals in the state.

Launching this week is the e-forms service, which will make 90 forms for corporate filings available and able to be completed and filed online. These forms represent more than 90 percent of the corporate filings handled by the state annually. Development of more than 200 online application forms for professional licensees is expected to be completed by December. This will complement the online renewal service now used by more than 93 percent of all professional license holders.

“Governor Corbett strongly supported passage of Act 67 in 2013, which gave the Department of State the legal go ahead to launch these time and cost saving online services,” Aichele said. As part of this law, the Department of State in January initiated an expedited corporate filing service. “Businesses are often involved in complicated financial and legal transactions that go down to the wire. This service allows documents to be processed in as little as one hour,” Aichele said.
