State Police Calls: DUI, Woman Scammed, Public Drunkenness

VENANGO CO., Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police responded to the following recent calls.

Franklin man suspected of DUI

According to police, a 59-year-old Franklin man drove a 2006 Ford F-350 pickup truck into a cement pillar at a Sheetz store on Allegheny Boulevard in Sugarcreek at 12:55 a.m. Thursday.

The man went inside the store and showed signs of drunkenness. Employees were reportedly alarmed and called police.

Police arrested the man and charges are pending a blood test.

Oil City woman victim of scam

According to police, a 35-year-old Oil City woman was the victim of a scam Wednesday after an unknown person tricked her into believing she was going to be arrested by the Internal Revenue Service for unpaid fines.

The scammers instructed the victim to buy iTunes cards at the Cranberry Walmart and read the activation numbers to the suspect, who spoke in broken English, possibly of Middle Eastern origin.

Woman charged with public drunkenness

According to police, a known, but unidentified, woman walked into the Cranberry Walmart late Wednesday under the influence of alcohol.

The woman tripped and fell several times. She was cited by police for public drunkenness and a family member took her home.
