CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Police say a $4,000.00 Home Depot gift card fraud occurred on Tuesday night in Cranberry Township.

According to Franklin-based State Police, around 8:18 p.m. on Tuesday, November 6, an unknown caller contacted the victim, an 84-year-old Franklin man, of U.S. 322, Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Police say the unknown caller stated that money was needed for bail for the victim’s grandson.

The victim was instructed to purchase two Home Depot gift cards valued at $2,000.00 each and to give the number off the cards to the unknown caller.

Upon investigation, the gift cards were taken to Home Depot and voided prior to the unknown caller using the funds on the cards. All money was returned to the victim, according to police.
