HARRISBURG, Pa. – Pennsylvania State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan yesterday announced troopers seized over $23 million in heroin, marijuana, and other prohibited drugs in the second quarter of 2014.

“Governor Corbett has tasked the state police with getting these illegal drugs and drug dealers off the streets and away from our children,” said Noonan. “The state police will make every effort to identify, prosecute and imprison drug dealers,” said Noonan.

In the second quarter of 2014, troopers seized over 24.5 kilos of heroin and over 1,000 pounds of marijuana with a combined approximate street value of over $22 million. In addition, state police seized over 7,500 prescription pills and seven pounds of methamphetamines valued at over $500,000. Troopers seized 4.3 kilos of cocaine with an estimated value of $430,000.

In 2013, the state police seized over $55 million in prohibited drugs.

State police have seized over 41 kilos of heroin in the first two quarters 2014, already surpassing last year’s total of 31.5 kilos.

“I am extremely proud of the work done by the Pennsylvania State Police, and I am looking forward to our continued partnership with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration and our state and local partners,” said Noonan.
