Sugarcreek Borough Police Second Annual Fill-A-Car Food Drive Event Set for October 20

| October 14, 2018

CRANBERRY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – The second annual Sugarcreek Borough Police Fill-A-Car food drive event is scheduled for Saturday, October 20.

The Fill-A-Car food drive supports Community Services of Venango County.

The event will be held at the Cranberry Walmart on Saturday, October 20, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. The officers on site will be collecting donations of nonperishable food items and personal care items.

Anyone who is unable to drop items off on Saturday can donate items at the Sugarcreek Borough Police Station on Friday, October 19, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. or Monday, October 22 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

According to Sugarcreek Police Lieutenant Ryan Ashbaugh, last year’s event, which was several years in the making, collected an estimated $1,300.00 in food and personal care items.

“A couple of years ago we kind of batted the idea around with Community Services, and it just never seemed to work out. Then, last year I decided we were just going to do it,” explained Lieutenant Ashbaugh.

Ashbaugh and Patrolmen Highfield and Johnson volunteered their time to collect the donations.

“It was rainy and cold, and we didn’t even expect to fill one car, but we ended up filling two.”

The officers hope that this year will provide nicer weather and allow even more people to donate to the drive.

“With the awesome community support that was shown last year, I know this year’s event will be better.”
