VENANGO CO., Pa. — Following rehabilitation and restoration work, the Sugarcreek Truss Bridge on Sugarcreek Drive (Route 4010) over Sugarcreek in Venango County is open to traffic.

Final paving work, including resurfacing the bridge approaches, will be done in the spring. During that time, the bridge will be closed for two weeks.

The bridge is located on Sugarcreek Drive in Sugarcreek Borough, about three-quarters of a mile west of the intersection with Route 322, and about a half mile east of the intersection with Buttermilk Hill Road.

The 126-foot-long steel truss bridge – designated as a historic structure – has been closed since June 2016.

Work on the 97-year-old truss bridge involved disassembling the structure and moving the component steel parts to another location, then sandblasting and galvanizing the parts before reassembling the bridge.

Work also included reconstruction and resurfacing of the roadway approaches, new concrete bridge approach slabs and updated guiderail and pavement markings.

The contractor is Allison Park Contractors, Inc. of Gibsonia, PA.
