BUTLER CO., Pa. (EYT) — A man accused of a kidnapping in Butler County and arson in Westmoreland County was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound following a police chase in Butler County.

According to ButlerRadio.com, 52-year-old John O’Leary, of Munhall, was wanted by police for allegedly kidnapping a woman at gunpoint on Thursday at the Slippery Rock Campground in Worth Township, Butler County.

The victim managed to escape, but O’Leary remained at large.

Police say they believe O’Leary then went on to set the woman’s home, in Irwin, Westmoreland County, on fire on Friday afternoon.

No one was injured in the blaze.

O’Leary was then spotted late Friday afternoon in the Greenfield area of Pittsburgh. According to police, he either crashed his vehicle during the police chase and then shot himself, or died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound before crashing his vehicle.

O’Leary had previously criminal record that included serving 10 to 20 years for criminal homicide in the 80s.
