Tae Kwon Do Offers Family Activity at Oil City YMCA

| May 28, 2018

OIL CITY, Pa. – The Oil City YMCA is strengthening families through a robust Korean Martial Arts Program that involves all family members ages six and older.

Tae Kwon Do is instructed by Grand Master Asa Williams and Chris Blauser, both black belt instructors from Northwest Martial Arts, Inc.

Williams holds a class every Friday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Oil City YMCA Gymnasium and Blauser holds another class every Wednesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

The entire family is welcome to participate in the classes. Youth can begin the program when they turn age six, and all ages take the class together.

“This is a unique program that involves the entire family,” said Katie Port, YMCA Wellness Director.

“We see youth, adults, and seniors enjoying this class every week. It offers something for a family to participate in together while developing a practical means of self-defense and improving overall fitness and self-confidence.”

Tae Kwon Do is the art of self-defense that originated in Korea. It is recognized as one of the oldest forms of martial arts in the world, reaching back over 2,000 years. The class teaches more than physical fighting skills. It is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing spirit and life through training our body and mind.

Classes run for six weeks per session. Sessions are reasonably priced at $22.00 for Members, $32.00 for Non-members.  All levels are welcome in the class.

A Summer session of Tae Kwon Do is currently open for registration. The session begins June 20 and runs through August 1.

Registration is available at the Oil City YMCA or through the online registration portal.
