The Great Outdoors: Fall Still Great Time for Camping

| October 1, 2017

Summer may be over, but it’s hardly the end of camping season.

I’ve always preferred the fall season to go camping. It’s typically cooler and often drier.  For “the tenter” and those not using an air-conditioned travel trailer, that’s a definite plus.

Cooler weather also makes hiking and mountain biking a much more pleasurable experience.

Cooler weather also cools the water and makes the fishing a bit better, too.

If you are headed to elk country to take in the spectacle of annual mating rituals,  then the fall season is definitely the time to go camping!

Bulls begin to bugle and gather their harems of cows, and once the weather cools, things really accelerate.

Another fall highlight is enjoying the beauty of the autumn woods with all its varied colors.

A good campfire is always a great way to end the day. They get somewhat better when evening temperatures dip into the 40’s and 50’s as opposed to what we’ve had lately.

Then, there are the crowds.

If you prefer more solitude, fall is going to be a little quieter because there are always less people; however, there are a few drawbacks.

Some places that cater to campers are open on a seasonal basis; however, they may not be open as much during the fall. Often, most places maintain weekend hours, so getting a reservation or stocking up on supplies is still more than doable.

Still, some advance planning is necessary. Checking the internet or making a few phone calls will give you the answers to whether your favorite place is open, or if you need to make other plans.

Advance planning always makes any trip much better.  Pennsylvania Great Outdoors webpage, visitpago.com is the place to do that research.

Vacationers can find things to do, places to stay, places to eat, outdoor recreational choices, and upcoming events on Pennsylvania Great Outdoors.

Planning a trip can help make a fall vacation relaxing and enjoyable.
