Celebrating 60 years of offering high-quality stage musicals and dramas, Franklin Civic Operetta Association is presenting Agatha Christie’s timeless mystery, “The Mousetrap,” which has been playing continuously in London’s West End for 67 years.

Performances at the Barrow-Civic Theatre in Franklin will be August 23, and 24 at 7:30 p.m., and August 25 at 2:00 p.m.

Under the direction of Hannah McCarthy and produced by Nicholas Hess and Kolby Martin, The Mousetrap is brought to life by an intriguing group of eight quirky suspects. The cast includes Mollie Ralston (Yelena Carvin), Giles Ralston (Ben Hoover), Christopher Wren (Andrew Ritsig), Mrs. Boyle (Charlotte L. Hanna), Major Metcalf (Michael Gorman), Miss Casewell (Victoria Johnson), Mr. Paravicini (Aaron Ritsig), and Detective Sergeant Trotter (Caleb McCarthy).

About the show, co-producer, Nicholas Hess, said “It is a privilege to be working on this classic play during the F.C.O.A.’s 60th anniversary year. We are so lucky to be able to breathe life into these shows and provide the public with a theatre where they can be transported to eras gone by. It is with the support of our audiences, as well as our donors and the countess volunteers, that we can continue to bring quality entertainment to this artistically rich and diverse valley.”

The show’s decades of success points to the influence of Agatha Christie’s writing and the world’s ever-present love of a good murder mystery. Having endured for nearly as long, F.C.O.A. attributes reaching its 60th Anniversary season to the creative vision of its founders, community support, local talent, and strong leadership.

Set in England in the 1950s, the story begins in an eerie boarding house, where a group of strangers are forced to take shelter from a sudden snowstorm. Soon, they discover that there is an unknown killer among them. One-by-one, sordid pasts, accusations, and murderous motives are revealed. Audiences will be treated to the complexities of a solidly crafted plot, era costumes, and professionally designed set, but the fun begins even before the curtain rises.

Test your knowledge of Christie’s mysteries. In the weeks leading up to the show, “mystery boxes” will be placed around Franklin and Oil City businesses, each with a different trivia question about Agatha Christie or her novels. Each correctly answered question will be entered into a drawing to win a 2020 Season Subscription.

Tickets are $20.00 for adults, $18.00 for seniors/military, and $14.00 for students/children.

Discounts are available for groups, families, and educators. Don’t fall into the trap of waiting until it’s too late.
