Thomas D. “Tucker” Rearick

Thomas D. “Tucker” Rearick, 67, of South Bethlehem, died on Wednesday, September 24, at the Clarion Hospital. He was born on October 8, 1946 in South Bethlehem the son of James A. and Jean F. (Hoffman) Rearick. He was married on April 20, 1978 to Mary (DeSantis).

Tucker served his country during the Vietnam War with the United States Navy from 1965 to 1969. He served on the USS Lawrence (DDG-4) as a Radarman with the rank of RD3 (E-4). His job was gathering and displaying information concerning the location of friendly, unidentified, and enemy units, helping to navigate the ship, controlling aircraft, and maintaining voice communications between the ship and other units of the fleet. During his service, he went on an around the world cruise. After being discharged from the Navy, he went work for Ralph Toy Drilling. Later he became a truck driver working for Bracken Construction, Don Shirey Lumber and Burns Farms. He was a member of the VFW in New Bethlehem. Tucker enjoyed traveling with his wife Mary and was also a Civil War buff and traveled to Gettysburg regularly.

He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Mary Rearick of South Bethlehem, four brothers; William E. Rearick and wife Rose of Fairmount City, John D. “Jack” Rearick and wife Tawna of New Bethlehem, Timothy S. Rearick and wife Crystal of Fairmount City and Kimball P. Rearick and wife Patsy of Hawthorn, a niece, April Johnston, three nephews, Chip Gilliland, Mike Gilliland and Mike Rearick, and numerous grandnieces and nephews.

Tucker was preceded in death by both of his parents, a brother, Clyde “Bud” Rearick and a sister, Nancy Rearick.

Visitation will be on Friday, September 26, from 2 – 4 and 6 – 9 at the Alcorn Funeral Home in Hawthorn. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 27, at 1:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Bob Ryver officiating. Immediately following the funeral service, military honors will be accord him by the Walter W. Craig Post 354 New Bethlehem American Legion. Interment will follow at the Oakland Cemetery in Distant.
