Thomas GeorgeThomas S. George, 89, of Rimersburg, passed away Thursday morning, December 29, 2016 at the Jefferson Manor in Brookville.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Tom was born on July 6, 1927 in Rimersburg; son of the late Wilbur and Ruth Flick George.

Tom enlisted in the Navy at the age of 17 in 1944.

He was very proud to have served his country and to be a veteran.

Tom graduated from Union High School in 1947.

He was married on October 12, 1949 to Jean Lehner.

They just celebrated their 67th anniversary and she survives in Rimersburg.

In 1963, he and his cousin, along with their wives, merged their dairy herds together and started George Farms Inc. where they sold pasteurized/homogenized milk to the public and later Tom and his wife were the sole owners.

He was also a partner in Ridgeview Coal Company in the late 70’s through the early 80’s.

Tom enjoyed growing crops and was a farmer all his life.

He was a Bus Contractor for the Union School District for several years.

Tom was a member of the Rimersburg VFW Post #7132 and the American Legion Post #0454.

He was also a former member of the Union School Board and Rimersburg Lions Club.

He is survived by his wife, three daughters, Brenda Brinker and her husband Bob of Rimersburg, Sharon Borovick and her husband Gerry of Sligo, and Sandra George and her husband Dow of California, four grandchildren, two special granddaughters, Kristen Hindman and her husband Mike and Chery Marshall and her husband Ross, and his special great grandchildren, Hayden, Carter, Madison Hindman and Emma Marshall.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his two brothers, Carl and Paul George.

Family will receive friends from 12 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. on Saturday, December 31, 2016 at the Burns Funeral Home and Crematorium Inc. in Rimersburg where Military Honors will be accorded by the American Legion Honor Guard Post #0454 and the VFW Post #7132 of Rimersburg and Funeral Services to follow at 3 p.m. in the Funeral Home with Peggy Mortimer, Lay Minister of the United Church of Christ in Rimersburg.

Interment will follow in the Rimersburg Cemetery.
