Three Agency Manhunt For Oil City Man Continues

| August 4, 2015

mendez[1]PRESIDENT TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Authorities from three separate agencies continue the manhunt to locate an Oil City man following an alleged assault.

As of early afternoon August 4, Steven Wayne Mendez, 26, of Oil City has not been taken into custody.

Robert Daugherty, Director of Venango County Court Supervision, told exploreVenango.com Mendez is not only being pursued by the Pennsylvania State Police, but also the state office of probation and parole and Venango County Court Supervision.

Daugherty said Mendez was on parole from the state for violating a protection from abuse agreement.

During his parole, Daugherty said Mendez faced three other charges, and online court documents indicate Mendez was charged with third-degree felony theft by unlawful taking and summary driving on a suspended license on March 25 in Franklin.

Mendez was released on $25,000 bail unsecured, but required to wear an electronic bracelet while on bail.

Mendez allegedly removed the bracelet, and Daugherty said this is why Venango County Court Supervision is involved.

Pennsylvania State Police say after Mendez removed the bracelet, he allegedly assaulted a 23-year-old woman.

“He could have an escape charge added, because everyone who is out on bail signs an agreement that if they violate the terms we could charge them with escape,” Daugherty said.

All three agencies want to see Mendez brought into custody.

“There is a lot of activity right now and we’re hoping we will have some information come in to us to resolve this,” Daugherty said.

Anyone who has seen Mendez is asked to call 911; or the local law enforcement agency where he is seen or is located; or call the sheriff’s office at 814-432-9563; or county probation on-call officer at 814-676-4545.
