Timothy J. Berry

Timothy J. Berry, 58, a resident of 324 16th Street, Franklin, died peacefully at 8:10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, in his home, of cancer.

He was born June 2, 1955 in Pittsburgh, a beloved son of Adele Patrellis Berry and the late Walter J. Berry.

He was a graduate of Mt. Lebanon High School. He attended West Virginia University and graduated from there in 1983 with a Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy.

He proudly served his country during peacetime as an enlisted medic in the U.S. Army. He continued his military service in the U.S. Army Reserves following his commission to first lieutenant. During his career he served as company commander in the 629th Transportation Company, Dubois, and the 554th Force Protection Company in Erie before retiring at the rank of major after more than 20 years of service.

For more than 10 years, Tim had owned and operated Franklin Physical Therapy, formerly located at 631 12th Street. He loved the physical therapy profession and enjoyed working with his patients and helping them heal and recover.

He was a member of Masonic Myrtle Lodge # 316 F&AM of Franklin. Tim was a long-standing member of both Ducks Unlimited and the National Wild Turkey Federation and was a life member of the National Rifle Association.

He had a passion for hunting and fishing and enjoyed traveling with his family. He was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan actively following the seasons of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers. He was a longtime collector, as well, of Pittsburgh sports memorabilia.

He was a member of St. Patrick Church in Franklin.

He is survived by his daughters: Rachel M. Flick and her husband, Major Chad M. Flick, U.S. Army of Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., and Lori G. Wick and her husband, Kristopher T. Wick, of Cambridge Springs and his grandchildren, Anthony M. Flick, Grace L Flick, and Eian K. Wick. Also surviving is their mother and his lifelong friend, Kathy Scherlek and her husband, Paul, of St. Robert, Mo.

Also surviving is his mother, Adele Stoeltzing and her husband, Richard, of Evans City. Tim also leaves behind his girlfriend Debbie Koladish of Franklin. Tim will be deeply missed by all those who had come to know and love him.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Janice Yeo; and his stepfather, Harry Morris.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the Timothy E. Hartle Funeral Home, 1328 Elk Street, Franklin. A Christian Wake Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick Church in Franklin, with the Rev. Matthew J. Strickenberger, a family friend and of St. Bartholomew Parish in Sharpsville, officiating.

Full military honors will immediately follow the Mass, accorded by the V.E.T.S. Funeral Honor Guard of Franklin.
