| March 22, 2018

OIL CITY, Pa. (EYT) – A Titusville man is behind bars after allegedly breaking into a residence in Oil City.

Court documents indicate the Oil City Police Department filed criminal charges against 67-year-old Raymond E. Bortzer, of Titusville.

According to a criminal complaint, around 3:47 p.m. on Tuesday, March 20, Oil City Police Officers were dispatched to a residence on the 600 block of Bissell Avenue for a burglary report. Officer Hargenrader spoke with two known women and a known man. The man and one of the woman explained that they were out of town for the weekend when Raymond Bortzer forced his way into the house through the side door using a small rake to break the glass. Officer Hargenrader asked the woman who was in the residence at the time of the break-in to make a statement at the police station. He also collected the small rake laying outside at the base of the door where the glass was smashed.

The woman stated she had separated from her husband, Raymond Bortzer, approximately five weeks earlier, and had been staying at her son’s house, to keep an eye on things while he was out of town. She stated she was in the residence alone on Friday night into Saturday morning, and around 2:30 a.m., Raymond Bortzer started pounding on the door, the complaint states.

She said after several minutes, he broke the window on the side door, came inside, and went up to the second floor, where he walked into the bedroom she was staying in, turned on the light, and told her they were going to talk. She said he made comments about it being good to see she wasn’t there with someone else and talked about issues they had dealt with in the past, monetary issues and a “contract” he drew up. She said he told her if she had agreed to everything in his handwritten contract, she could move back to their house – then he told her she would never set foot in their house again, according to the complaint.

The victims advised Officer Hargenrader that they wanted Raymond Bortzer charged for breaking their window and entering their home, the complaint indicates.

Based on the investigation, Raymond Bortzer was arraigned at 11:45 pm on Tuesday, March 20, in Magisterial District Judge Andrew F. Fish’s office on the following charges:

– Criminal Trespass-Break Into Structure, Felony 2
– Criminal Mischief-Damage Property, Summary

He was lodged in the Venango County Jail.

According to court documents, bail was denied because of “Threat/Danger to self and family.”

A preliminary hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 28, with Judge Fish presiding.
