FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Dave Ballard and Craig Smith of TrAils to Ales Brewery attended Monday evening’s Franklin City Council meeting and spoke during the Citizen’s Inquiry to seek council’s opinion on the idea of creating a beer garden in the alleyway by the brewpub during this year’s Applefest.

Ballard spoke at length about the brewery’s desire promote both the brewery and the town to bring more people into the area.

“We all want to improve town. We want people coming into town, we want to have an attraction for them to come,” Ballard said.

“We would like to see if it is possible for us to have a beer garden, actually maybe a beer and wine garden between us and the winery over there, during Applefest. We could use the alley between the buildings, set up some tables, maybe have some entertainment, and set that up as a beer garden,” Ballard said.

“Logistically, I know there would be some things that would have to be worked out, but I guess what we’re coming for tonight is to see what the appetite might be for us doing something like that.”

Council member Jim Marshall made his negative opinion on the matter clear early in the discussion.
