ALLEGHENY TWP., Pa. (EYT) – State police took a Louisiana man into custody following a dui-related crash on Monday evening on Interstate 80 in Allegheny Township, Butler County.

According to Clarion-based State Police, around 8:58 p.m. on Monday, January 8, 38-year-old Joseph Dernovish, of Shreveport, Louisiana, was traveling east on I-80 in the left lane. He lost control of his 2015 Freightliner Cascadia, exited the north side of I-80, and struck the concrete barrier in the median.

Upon striking the concrete barrier, Dernovish attempted to steer away and overcompensated causing the truck to begin sliding. During the slide, the truck overturned and then continued sliding onto its left side until it came to rest on its left side blocking the eastbound travel lane. The rear of the trailer was facing northeast with the tractor jackknifed partially on top of the trailer.

Dernovish was using a seat belt, and was not injured.

He was taken into custody and charged with Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol or Controlled Substance as well as multiple summary traffic violations.

Dernovish was lodged in the Butler County Jail where he was awaiting a preliminary hearing.

Emlenton Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
