Tuesday’s HS Softball Roundup: Duncan Helps Cranberry Past Redbank Valley

NEW BETHLEHEM, Pa. (D9Sports) – In a showdown of arguably the second- and third-best teams in District 9 Class 2A, Cranberry grabbed a 4-0 lead after four innings then held off a seventh-inning rally from Redbank Valley to get a 4-2 road victory.

The Berries scored three times in the second and once in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead before Redbank Valley rallied for a pair of runs in the seventh.

Hannah Duncan led Cranberry going 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Rachel McCauley added two hits, including a triple, and a run scored, while Malliah Schreck also had two hits, including a triple, a run scored and an RBI.

Lexi Holt was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and an RBI for Redbank Valley. Lauren Rearick was also 2-for-3 with a run scored and Sami Leasure chipped in a hit, a run scored and an RBI.

Natalie Barcinas got the win going seven innings allowing two runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out three.

Alyssa Burkett took the loss pitching seven innings allowing four runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out two.

MONITEAU 18, CLARION-LIMESTONE 0, 3 INNINGS

STRATTANVILLE, Pa. – Gabby Stewart, Kennedy DeMatteis and Kristina DeMatteis combined for 10 RBIs, as Moniteau used an 11-run first and seven-run second to get an 18-0, three-inning road win over Clarion-Limestone.

Kristina DeMatteis doubled and went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and four RBIs, Stewart was 1-for-2 with a walk, two runs scored and three RBIs and Kennedy DeMatteis was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBIs.

Megan Hepler chipped in a double, two runs scored and an RBI for the Lady Warriors, while Amanda Dailey was 3-for-3 with a triple, two runs scored and two RBIs. Maddie Fitzgerald also went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI, Cortney Claypoole was 2-for-3 with three runs scored and an RBI and Sara Hull was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs.

Kennedy DeMatteis didn’t give up a base runner in her three innings of work striking out six of the nine C-L batters she faced.

KEYSTONE 12, FOREST AREA 10

KNOX, Pa. – Keystone beat visiting Forest Area, 12-10, in a slugfest in Game One of a doubleheader.

Jenna Hawk had a pair of doubles and four RBIs for the Lady Panthers, while Cora Black drove in two runs.

MaKena Stiller got the win walking one and striking out eight while also driving in a run on offense.

In the second game, Keystone was winning 17-10 in the seventh inning when the game was suspended. It’s not known if it will be continued yet or not.

In the game, Black had a triple and four RBIs, Alyssa Dunlap tripled and Jesse Phillipi had a double and two RBIs.
