Two Franklin Residents Arrested on Multiple Charges after Alleged Theft

CRANBERRY TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police say an incident of retail theft occurred at the Cranberry Wal-Mart on Kimberly Lane, in Cranberry Township, Venango County.

Police report that Linda Kay Shaw, age 45, and Jerold Brian Wiggins, age 35, both of Franklin, PA, were arrested on Sunday, August 17 around 4:30 p.m. after allegedly stealing merchandise from the Cranberry Wal-Mart Store.

Police report the incident to have taken place as follows:

Shaw and Wiggins entered the Walmart store together.

Wiggins picked up a bag of Guinea Pig food and gave it to Shaw and she allegedly placed it in the bottom of the cart.

Shaw allegedly selected the other 4 items that were not paid for:

– One red 30-foot Pet Champion brand dog tie out cable (value $11.94)
– One pink Pet Wear dog collar- size large (value $6.88)
– One 8 oz bottle of Pm Sense Freshening Spray (value $3.77)
– One 50 count pack of Great Value flush-able wipes (value $1.67)

Police say that she allegedly concealed the items in her purse.

The two then went through a self checkout together, where some items were paid for.

The Wild Harvest Guineau Pig Food (value $9.97) was allegedly concealed in the bottom of the cart beneath a large bag of dog food and was not scanned or otherwise paid for at the checkout.

They also did not pay for the items that Shaw allegedly concealed in her purse.

The two then exited the store and were promptly stopped by PSP members and a Walmart employee.

Both were taken into PSP custody.

It was also noted that Shaw and Wiggins arrived at Walmart in Shaw’s vehicle, with Wiggins driving while his operating privilege was suspended due to a DUI related incident.

Shaw is charged with one count of Summary Retail Theft and one count of Permitting an Unlicensed Person to Operate her vehicle.

Wiggins is charged with one count of Summary Retail Theft and Driving While his Operating Privilege was under DUI related suspension.

It was determined that both were already on probation.

Both were committed into Venango County Jail on probation detainers.
