OILCREEK TWP., Pa. (EYT) — Franklin-based State Police have released details surrounding a January 3 accident that sent two men to a local hospital.

State Police say the accident happened around 6:08 a.m. when Denton J. Merwin, 44, of Oil City, attempted to pass multiple vehicles while traveling north on State Route 227.

At the same time Merwin was trying to pass multiple vehicles, a northbound vehicle operated Spencer R. Duffee, 53, of Youngsville, also attempted to pass a vehicle.

Duffee’s 2003 Buick Rendevous was subsequently side-swiped by Merwin’s 2015 GMC Denali, causing the Denali to travel off the roadway into a wooded area.

Duffee’s vehicle then fishtailed and struck a vehicle operated by Danl C. Boley, 45, of Franklin.

Boley’s 2011 Ford F-250 exited the roadway and crashed into a large ditch before colliding with a tree.

Boley and a passenger — Albert Mastrogiacoma III, 30, of Volant — were transported to UPMC Northwest for treatment of unknown injuries.

Duffee and Merwin were not injured.

All occupants were wearing safety belts.

Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.
