BEAVER TOWNSHIP, Pa. (EYT) – Two Knox residents already jailed for allegedly making meth are now facing additional charges.

According to court documents, Michael Lee Barrett, 47, and Crystal Lynn Elder, 22, both of Knox, were arrested August 21 on charges of manufacturing methamphetamine.

Clarion County Detective William Peck IV, along with Sgt. Bauer and Tpr. Craddock of Clarion-based State Police, went to the residence to serve the arrest warrants on August 21 and allegedly discovered evidence leading to further charges.

According to a criminal complaint, Detective Peck made contact with both suspects inside an enclosed utility car trailer on the property. The side door to the trailer was hanging open, and Detective Peck allegedly observed Barrett asleep in a chair and Elder sleeping on a bed inside the trailer.

“I observed in plain view the following items laying on the counter inside the trailer, burnt foil (used to smoke controlled substances), straws (used to ingest controlled substances), coffee filter with numerous (approx 10) pills in the filter (possibly Sudafed), used in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine,” the complaint states.

Barrett woke up and was taken into custody, was searched and Suboxone pills were allegedly found in a container in his front left pocket along with a partial white pill in a cigarette wrapper “that Barrett said was also a different kind of Suboxone,” the complaint indicates.

Elder was taken into custody next, and while inside the trailer arresting her, police allegedly observed a metal container of Coleman Fuel which is also used in the manufacturing of Methamphetamine, the complaint continues.

Police spoke with Barrett and asked what was illegal in the trailer, and he allegedly said some pills, (Sudafed), marijuana, and mushrooms. When asked when was the last time he used Meth, Barrett said last night but said there was no Meth lab at the trailer and “someone else cooked the Meth last night and brought it there; he did not make it,” according to the complaint.

Police told Barrett they observed items in a burn ring that was consistent with making Meth, unburnt package of batteries, unburnt box of Claritin D, both items used in the process of making Meth. Barrett said “he did not make the Meth last night” and police asked if the “one pot” that was used to make it was burnt in the fire ring and he said he believed it was, the complaint states.

Police also allegedly observed a car parked in front of the utility trailer, and Barrett said he was buying it from the guy who it was registered to. Police allegedly observed an aluminum foil roll in the back seat of the car and a straw in the middle console. Both items used in the ingesting of controlled substances of Methamphetamine, the complaint indicates.

Police also allegedly observed the vehicle displayed a Pa State Inspection that appeared to be altered, the vehicle also did not display a VIN number where the VIN plate should be on the windshield area, the complaint continues.

According to the complaint, the PA State Police Meth Clandestine Lab Team conducted the search of the Utility Trailer and the suspect’s vehicle. The following items were allegedly seized:

# 1 (10) cold medicine pills in coffee filter
# 2 electric grinder
# 3 plastic bottle with white residue in 1 lb bottle

Detective Peck was contacted by Mr. Bailor on August 26 and informed “he confirmed one of the bottles seized listed above contained Methamphetamine, a Schedule II Controlled Substance,” the complaint indicates.

Both Barrett and Elder were arraigned on August 31. Both were previously jailed on $25,000.00 bail. Bail is now set at $50,000.00 with the new charges.

The new charges are 10 felonies and 12 misdemeanors for Barrett and 10 felonies and 10 misdemeanors for Elder.
