SENECA, Pa. (EYT) — Cris Cross Sewing, a handmade bag and embroidery specialty store, has recently moved into Dapa Decor’s space at the old Cranberry High School at 224 S. Main Street in Seneca.

Chris Cozad, the owner of Cris Cross Sewing, had previously worked at Joann Fabrics and noticed that when the store announced its departure from Cranberry Mall, locals would have to travel long distances for their sewing supplies. With that in mind, she decided to stock fabric to offer the convenience of purchasing it locally.

Chris talked to her friend Patty Ace, the owner of Dapa Decor, who invited her to set up her store inside Dapa Decor’s room.

The move to Dapa Decor’s space allows Cris Cross Sewing to offer a carefully-curated selection of fabric to its customers, with more variety coming soon. Chris is working on securing more vendors so that she can offer the best prices to her customers.

Chris’ ultimate goal is to have her own room in the school, preferably the one right across from Dapa Decor.

Chris used to be the owner of Two Mile Run Country Store in Dempseytown. It was there that she started making bags and purses to sell during the slower winter months. When she sold the store, she decided to start her own sewing business and has been doing it ever since.

Cris Cross Sewing stocks handmade items for sale, but Chris also offers custom-made products, using the fabric of the customer’s choice.

Dapa Decor has been in business for 30 years, specializing in handmade items like placemats, hand towels, and crocheted items.

Dapa Decor’s owners, Patty and David Ace (Dapa is an acronym for David Ace Patty Ace), make everything they sell by hand, including hand towels, placemats, children’s mittens and washable crocheted food. The move to the old Cranberry High School in late 2022 came after they were evicted from Cranberry Mall.

Both Patty Ace and Chris Cozad have known each other since about 1981. Patty was 20 at the time and Chris was 10. They both graduated from Cranberry High School— Patty graduated in 1979,Chris in 1989.

With the move to their old stomping grounds, Patty and Chris are excited to be back in a familiar place and offer their unique handmade products to their customers.

Dapa Decor and Cris Cross Sewing are open on Fridays and Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. unless posted otherwise. Check their Facebook pages for those details.
