FRANKLIN, Pa. (EYT) — Two local women are facing conspiracy to commit forgery and related offenses stemming from incidents that occurred in November and December of 2016.

According to the Franklin Police Department, “through the dates of November 12, 2016 to December 19, 2016, 51-year-old Rita Mueller-Bugna, of Oil City, and a 25-year-old Franklin woman wrote several checks from the bank account of Baker’s father.”

Police say, “unbeknownst to (the 25-year-old father), she had stolen and given the checkbook to Mueller-Bugna, and the two agreed to split the proceeds received from the checks.”

A total of 16 checks were attempted to be cashed, according to police.

It is alleged that Mueller-Bugna wrote the checks and then forged the victim’s name. She wrote the checks out to her father, and then cashed them in his account and used his ATM card to withdraw the funds, according to police.

The 25-year-old Franklin woman and Mueller-Bugna were charged with the following offenses:

– Conspiracy to Commit Forgery
– Access Device Fraud
– Identity Theft
– Theft of Movable Property

Mueller-Bugna also faces charges of Forgery.
