Two Workers Trapped After Trench Collapses

MERCER COUNTY, Pa. Yesterday two men were injured after a trench collapsed on them in a work area near George Junior Road in Grove City, Mercer County.

According to a published article in wkbn.com, around 2:00 p.m. on October 8, an 8-foot trench collapsed on two men who were working on a sewer lateral for a private residence.

Mercer, Pine Township, and Grove City rescue teams responded to the scene.

Sources say one of the men was trapped up to his knees, while the other worker was trapped in the trench up to his neck.

The first victim was checked, and he was not transported to the hospital.

Rescue crews removed the dirt to the second victim’s waist. He had a shoulder and lower extremity injuries and was flown via a helicopter to an unspecified hospital.

The extent of his injuries are unknown.

The incident is under investigation.
